Después de la etapa "rinconera", aún sigo recibiendo muchas NP de nuestro mundillo de una agencia inglesa. Me hago cargo de que no todo el mundo dominará el idioma de Shakespeare pero aún así creo que vale la pena darlas publicación. Irán todos agrupadas en este hilo.

CATERHAM CARS OPENS NEW SHOWROOM IN ITALY

British sportscar manufacturer, Caterham Cars, has expanded its growing European dealer network with the appointment of Borghi Automomobili as a new distributor in Italy’s fashion captial, Milan. Borghi Automomobili was established in 1919 and has almost a century’s experience in selling exotic sportscars from all over the world.

The appointment re-establishes Caterham’s presence in Italy and the full European range of Caterham’s iconic British sportscars - including the Seven 165, the brand-new Seven 275, and Europe’s most powerful Seven; the 485 - will be available, as well as Caterham Academy and R300 race cars.  In addition to catering for new customers, Borghi Automomobili also offers Italian customers a full after sales service.

GOODWOOD MEMBERS’ MEETING TO HOST INCREDIBLE SUPER TOURING DISPLAY

he Goodwood Road Racing Club 74th Members’ Meeting will celebrate the golden age of the British Touring Car Championship in 2016 with a special on-track collection of Super Touring machines of the 1990s.

Sixteen cars, spanning Super Touring’s most outstanding years, will play a starring role at the Members’ Meeting on March 19-20 with a colourful high-speed demonstration on each day of the event.

The ‘Super Touring’ name came into being in 1995 and was applied to the set of touring car regulations that became the  BTCC’s sole class in ‘91 that centered around two-litre, normally-aspirated saloons such as the Vauxhall Cavalier and Nissan Primera.

The Members’ Meeting track activity will focus on the spectacular winged machines of 1995-2000 that resulted in championship successes for John Cleland, Frank Biela, Alain Menu, Rickard Rydell and Laurent Aiello.

Two-time BTCC Champion Cleland and podium finisher Patrick Watts – both of whom race in the HSCC’s Super Touring Championship – will take part in the Goodwood demonstration in, respectively, their own 1997 Vauxhall Vectra and ‘98 Peugeot 406.

The 2000 Honda Accord in which Le Mans legend Tom Kristensen won the last BTCC race held to Super Touring rules, the Ford Mondeo in which Rickard Rydell won three times the same season, and Jo Winkelhock’s 1994 BMW 318i are also confirmed already.

So are an ex-works Audi A4 Quattro like the one in which Frank Biela won the 1996 title, one of the Volvo S40s used by Rydell in his title-winning campaign of ‘98 and David Leslie’s Nissan Primera, in which the Scot finished second in the championship the following season.

Another Leslie car, the RML-run Ecurie Ecosse Cavalier in which the he took his maiden BTCC success at Thruxton in 1993, will take part, as will the ex-Jean-Christophe Boullion Renault Laguna from the 1999 season, with more names added in due course.

The Super Touring high-speed demos join those for sensational ground-effect Formula 1 cars and monstrous five-litre Group 5 sportscars on the Members’ Meeting line-up.

Goodwood can also today announce the names of all 11 races that will be held over the weekend. New events include the Hailwood Trophy for two-stroke grand prix motorbikes of 250 and 350cc, and the Alan Mann Trophy for Ford GT40s.

Members of the Goodwood Road Racing Club can secure their spots at the event now with those on the Club waiting list able to purchase from 2 November. A small number of tickets will go on general sale on 1 January 2016, subject to availability.

WHERE TO SEE THE BRIGHTON BELLES

Subtle route revisions will make it even easier for spectators to enjoy the splendour of the Bonhams London to Brighton Veteran Car Run

As many as half a million spectators will line the route of the Bonhams London to Brighton Veteran Car Run this November, when the longest running motoring event in the world sets off on its annual adventure from London to Brighton (Sunday 1 November).

Like the hardy teams piloting their amazing horseless carriages from the capital to the coast, the spectators brave whatever the weather conjures up to salute motoring’s pioneers: every car taking part was built before 1905.

Best of all, every vantage point along the 60-mile route offers completely free viewing allowing everyone to enjoy the sights, sounds and smells of more than 400 veterans as they ‘put-put’ their way to Brighton.

Although the Run follows more or less the same route as last year, there have been a few changes to make it even better for participants and spectators alike. The first cars will start at Hyde Park Corner at first light (6.54am) where the route takes them through Wellington Arch and down Constitution Hill to pass Buckingham Palace before they head down The Mall.

From The Mall, the cars will turn right onto Horse Guards Road before turning left onto Birdcage Walk, heading towards the Houses of Parliament and Westminster Bridge. Once south of the river, the cars will turn right onto Lambeth Palace Road before turning left by the Palace towards the Imperial War Museum where they join the A23 to head south towards Croydon, Purley, Redhill, Crawley and on to Brighton.

One popular viewing point just south of Redhill is at the A23 Brighton Road crossroads with Hooley Lane. This is a long incline that really tests the cars’ stamina: the first cars are expected here from 7.50am until around 11.30am.

Like last year, the participants will benefit from a pit stop in Crawley, courtesy of Harrods and Gatwick Honda. The dealer will clear its forecourt and service bays of modern cars to allow drivers and mechanics to fettle their steeds while passengers enjoy a warming drink. Due to lack of spectator viewing points, the time control checkpoint has been reintroduced into nearby Crawley High Street to allow fans to get up close to the cars. This will be the vantage point for spectators.

A knowledgeable commentary team will be on-hand in the High Street to give spectators some background on each car as it passes through. The first cars are expected to head off from 8.15am with the last leaving at about 1.45pm.

As the journey continues, the next popular vantage point is the village of Cuckfield where the pubs open early – for teas, coffees and soft drinks. Cars will be passing through here between 8.45am and 2.30pm before heading through Burgess Hill  between 8.55am and 3pm and reaching their destination at Brighton.

Another change this year sees the official finish moving to Madeira Drive, the site of the traditional ceremonial finish. The first cars are expected from 9.54am and all will be able to use bus lanes on Brighton’s Grand Parade to ease their passage to the sea front.

The event also attracts owners of classic cars who head out in support of the Run. MGs, Morgans, Rolls-Royces and Bentleys gather outside The Jolly Tanners and The Victory Inn by the village green in Staplefield as their owners cheer the veterans through. Members of the Panhard Club GB and Lotus 7 Club do the same at Handcross, just south of Crawley.

“Interest in the Veteran Car Run is higher than ever and the minor changes we have made to the route are designed not just to make life easier for the participants – you’ve got to remember these cars are all over 110 years old ­– but also to make it even more inviting to spectators,” said Clerk of the Course, Neil Carr-Jones.

“For anyone interested in the history of motoring and how the invention of the horseless carriage has shaped our lives, this is the greatest show on earth.”

There will be even greater spectator involvement on the Run this year. A social media campaign on the day will encourage spectators to vote for the crew dressed in the best period costume. The crew with the most nominations will win the Best Period Dress award!

About Bonhams London to Brighton Veteran Car Run

With its unique atmosphere and camaraderie, the Bonhams Veteran Car Run travelling from London to Brighton (staged specifically as a non-profit making veneration) commemorates the Emancipation Run of 14 November 1896, which celebrated the Locomotives on the Highway Act. The Act raised the speed limit for ‘light locomotives’ from 4 to 14mph, and abolished the need for these vehicles to be preceded by a man on foot waving a red flag.

The Emancipation Run was first commemorated in 1897 with a re-enactment following the same route in 1927 and has taken place every November since, with the exception of the war years and 1947 when petrol was rationed. The Royal Automobile Club has managed the Run with the support of the Veteran Car Club of Great Britain since 1930.

Formula 1 technical supremo Ross Brawn gears up for a second trip down memory lane to Brighton

The magic of the annual Bonhams London to Brighton Veteran Car Run always attracts a host of high profile personalities from right across sporting and entertainment spectrums. Last year’s staging of the world’s longest-running motoring event starred TV personality Paul Hollywood and Olympic heroes Sir Ben Ainslie and Sir Steve Redgrave.

Formula 1 legend Ross Brawn OBE was another of last year’s well-known figures making his debut on the hallowed route from Hyde Park to the Sussex coast. Now, bowled over by that ‘tremendous experience’, he’s returning for another veteran car adventure next month (Sunday 1 November).

Brawn is renowned for his engineering wisdom. Before stepping down as Team Principal of Lewis Hamilton OBE’s all-conquering Mercedes outfit in 2014, he was the technical genius behind the championship-winning Benetton and Ferrari Formula 1 teams as well as owner of his own Brawn Grand Prix team that took Jenson Button to the 2009 title.

Indeed, it’s this deep-seated fascination with automotive mechanics that attracted him to not only participate in last year’s Run but also to buy and enter his own pre-1905 veteran car. Adding further to his involvement, Brawn also joined the judging panel for the EFG International Concours d’Elegance which, as tradition now dictates, takes place during the Regent Street Motor Show on the eve of the Run. He’ll be joining the judging line-up once again this year.

The pioneering machine the 60-year-old Lancastrian mastermind now owns is unsurprisingly very special and highly innovative. It’s the only known surviving British-built Wilson-Pilcher dating back to 1904. Among a host of groundbreaking components, it features a 2.7-litre, water-cooled, flat-four 12/16hp engine, a Phaeton chassis, a remarkably low centre of gravity and a novel transmission fitted with dual epicyclic gears.

The forward-looking four-seater remained in its creator’s family for more than a century before Brawn acquired it in 2013 via a sale organised by auctioneers Bonhams. It was then recommissioned just in time for last November’s trip to Brighton – a memorable outing the rare Wilson-Pilcher’s new owner relished for lots of reasons. 

“It was a tremendous experience,” he recalls. “I was just staggered and impressed by the support the event gets from the public – they love it. Even though the weather wasn’t great, the amount of people out waving and cheering was really enjoyable and impressive.

“Driving the car for the 60 miles was completely novel. I’d had some lessons from someone who knew what they were doing but driving that far was certainly an undertaking. It was nice to challenge myself with something different – normally I’m watching someone else do the driving!”

As well as enjoying his time behind the wheel, Brawn is still intrigued by the technically advanced Wilson-Pilcher.

“It appealed to me because of the history of Walter Wilson who designed the car,” continues the brains behind no fewer than nine Formula 1 Constructors’ Championships. ‘Wilson was one of the most innovative engineers of his era and went on to design the First World War tank and the famous Wilson Pre-Selector gearbox. You just look at the car and there are so many interesting engineering concepts. They didn’t have the materials or the methods that exist now but what they achieved within the limitations they had is just staggering. Every time I look around the car, or do something on it, I discover something new that really impresses me. It’s a great car.”

Despite having to overcome a few little problems in true period style as well as battling a heavy rain storm when crossing the South Downs, Brawn and the Wilson-Pilcher made it all the way to Madeira Drive last November – a feat he is now aiming to repeat next month.

“As you get more into it, I think finishing becomes more of an important objective,” he admits. “For me the first year was just taking part and I was just glad to finish – now I want to make sure I finish!

“I can see the compulsion of people wanting to get to Brighton - we’ve had some more work done on the car this summer to get it ready and we’ll keep doing that. The car had been kept in reasonable condition but not had that much done to it over a number of years, so it’s now my responsibility to ensure it’s kept in full working order.”

The ground-breaking Caterham Academy championship celebrates its 20th anniversary today (October 1).

The very first Academy event took place, under the banner of the Top Gear Caterham Scholarship, at Mallory Park in 1995 and Caterham has located rare footage of the event to celebrate the landmark birthday.

Since its inception, the Academy has gone on to become one of the most popular novice race series in the UK, with more than 900 amateur male and female drivers competing across the 21 seasons racing the iconic Caterham Seven.

In its 20 years, more than 300 Academy sprints and race events have taken place, generating enough competitive miles to orbit the Earth almost seven times.

The series has welcomed drivers of all ages and abilities; the youngest Caterham Academy driver was just 16 years old and the oldest novice racer to complete the championship was 74. The youngest drivers to be crowned champion were 17-year olds Ben Winrow and Guy Harrington, in 2002 and 2004 respectively. 

Caterham’s Chief Technical & Motorsport Officer, Simon Lambert, competed in the inaugural Caterham Academy, winning the very first race and coming second overall in the 1995 championship.

Lambert said: “The Academy, or the Scholarship as it was called back in 1995, made my childhood dream of being a racing driver become a reality; without it, perhaps it would never have happened. Several years of racing followed and this has provided me with some truly great memories and even better friends who have remained long after the racing stopped.

“Ultimately, I joined Caterham and am fortuitously responsible for the series. Some 900 people have followed in my footsteps and looking after the Academy is undoubtedly the highlight of my role here.  It’s a cliché, but I know from experience that we are making dreams come true.  It is a fantastic thing to be part of.”

The Academy is an amateurs-only programme, designed to guide competitors through every step, from gaining a competition licence, through car control training and on to their first season of competition at some of the UK’s best-known circuits.

The Caterham Academy is widely-acknowledged as one of the best-value introductions to motorsport.  Spaces on the Caterham Academy grid have continued to be in extremely high demand, with 49 drivers already signed up for the 2016 season and 8 for the 2017 season.

An Aston Martin DB4GT, Ferrari 250GT California Spider, Jaguar E-type Roadster, Mercedes-Benz 300SL ‘Gullwing’, 1973 Pontiac Trans Am and Porsche 993 Carrera RS appeared in all their glory outside Alexandra Palace, which first opened in 1873. These stunning classics are just a small selection of the 300 or so cars to which visitors will be able to get up close at the event, thanks to stands featuring historic machines from world-famous collectors and world-renowned classic car retailers. Andall under one roof too.

Classic & Sports Car – The London Show will also feature a number of high-profile themes in its first year, as well as some exciting exhibits.

Best British Car Ever sponsored by Autoglym

Reflecting the show’s catch-all theme of ‘Best of British’, Classic & Sports Car – The London Show will reveal the Best British Car Ever, sponsored by Autoglym. Classic & Sports Car magazine asked a jury of more than 100 motoring experts – including McLaren F1 designer Gordon Murray, Lotus head of design Russell Carr and Pink Floyd drummer and car collector Nick Mason – to come up with the shortlist of 10 cars. Aston Martin Celebration

Revered British marque Aston Martin will feature prominently at the event. Aston Martin: The Story of an Icon partnered by EFG, will feature important cars spanning Aston’s 100-year-plus history. Thanks to the co-operation of the Aston Martin Heritage Trust, the oldest surviving car in the firm’s history, the 1921 ‘A3’, will be among them, as will the opposing bookend car, the DB9 GT. Visitors will also be able to feast their eyes on a rare DB MkIII, a V8, a DB7, a Vanquish and, of course, the best-loved Aston of all time: a silver birch DB5, a model immortalised by James Bond.

Stirling Moss single-seater display

To celebrate the career of Britain’s most successful and best-loved racing driver, Sir Stirling Moss, Classic & Sports Car – The London Show has assembled a quartet of British single-seater racing cars with which ‘Mr Motor Racing’ enjoyed so much success during the 1950s and early-’60s.

The Cooper MkIV, in which he won at Monaco in 1960, the Lotus 18 that he used to take victory on the streets of the Principality a decade later, the unique four-wheel-drive Ferguson P99 that gave Moss a win in the Oulton Park Gold Cup in 1961 and the teardrop Vanwall VW4 with which the great man shared victory in the British Grand Prix at Aintree in 1957 with Tony Brooks – thus becoming the first Brits to win their home GP in a British car – will wow visitors in a special display area.

Live Stage interviews

One of the key attractions of Classic & Sports Car – The London Show will be the Live Stage, in partnership with Smooth Radio. A line-up of superb guests, who will be grilled on their career highs – and lows – and favourite classics by motoring journalist and broadcaster Henry Hope-Frost, is already confirmed across the three days of the show.

COYS AUCTION STOLE THE SHOW AT FRANKFURT

International auctioneers Coys achieved outstanding results at their ground-breaking inaugural auction at the IAA Frankfurt Motor Show on Saturday 26th September.
 
As the exclusive auction partner of one of the world’s largest and most important motor shows, Coys offered a fabulous and varied selection of classic and sports cars.
 
One of the highlights of the auction was a 1959 Facel Vega HK 500, supplied new in 1959 to one of Hollywood's golden era most famous leading actresses Ava Gardner. This iconic celebrity car sold for €103,685.
 
Porsches had an outstanding performance at their home country with a 1989 Porsche 930 Turbo SE Flachbau selling for €90,000, a 1994 Porsche 964 Speedster for €123,500 and a 1956 Porsche 356 A 1600 Speedster by Reutter for €232,370.
 
Other important results included a 1966 Maserati Quattroporte I, which sold for €64,520, a 1961 Jaguar E-Type Series 1 3.8 Litre Roadster for €130,000, a 1984 Aston Martin V8 Volante for €122,000, a 1968 Mercedes-Benz 600 Pullman for €182,015 a 1965 Mercedes-Benz 600 for €81,305 and a 1994 Ferrari 512 TR for €154,040.
 
Chris Routledge, Managing Partner at Coys, said: “The superb selection of cars of offer appealed to the truly international audience present at the show, who queued 150 metres out of the door and round the corner to attend on auction day - with cars predictably selling to all four corners of the globe.”

JD CLASSICS CELEBRATES SUCCESSFUL BERNINA GRANTURISMO

Maldon, Essex, Wednesday 7th October: In the gorgeous surroundings of the Alps, JD Classics put in a strong performance at the historic racing calendar’s newest event – the revived Bernina Granturismo. With JD Classics as sponsors, it was the first time the event had been officially run since the 1930s, and JD Classics’ six entries all performed well, capped off by a second-place overall finish for the ex-Fangio C-Type and two class wins.

Celebrating sports and racing cars built up to the early 1980s, more than 40 cars took part in the event, which traced the old Bernina hillclimb route 5.6km from La Rosa up to the Bernina Hospiz. JD Classics arrived in San Moritz early Friday morning, accompanied by its six cars: the ex-Fangio C-Type, Cooper T33, Ford GT40, Jaguar XK120, Datsun 240Z and an ex-Works Ford Escort RS1800.

Saturday morning’s practice runs were wet and misty, but the JD Classics Competition Department all put in strong runs on the Bernina Pass, despite challenging conditions and a seriously demanding route. The team’s expert engineers then carried out their final checks of the cars just ahead of the first competitive runs on the Pass.

JD Classics’ resident racing driver, Chris Ward, continued his excellent form following two wins at Goodwood Revival and a win at Spa Francorchamps to put the ex-Fangio C-Type second-fastest on his first run. His second run was quicker still, putting the JD Classics car at the top of the leader board. Alex Newman, in JD Classics’ Jaguar XK120, also went fastest in Class E.

Sunday morning was due to bring with it the second round of competitive runs, but with heavy snowfall and conditions showing no signs of improving, the competition was called off. Final positioning was determined by the outcome of Saturday’s runs, granting the ex-Fangio C-Type a second-place overall finish, and the Cooper T33 of JD Classics’ MD Derek Hood, fifth place. There were strong performances in individual classes, too, with the team’s XK120 winning Class E, the Datsun 240Z of Steve Riedling second in Class H1 and the ex-Works Escort RS1800 taking first place overall in the Regularity field.

OVER 65 CLASSIC AND SPORTS CARS TO GO UNDER THE HAMMER AT COYS ASCOT AUCTION

nternational auctioneers Coys are set to auction over 65 classic and sports cars at their regular autumn auction, The Spirit of Motoring, held at the Ascot Racecourse in Berkshire this Saturday 10th October.

The sale will features a broad, high-quality catalogue, with everything from a 1991 Rover Mini – Ex Britt Ekland (estimated at £7,000 to £10,000), an original 1937 Jaguar SS 100 2 ½ litre (Refer Department), Clay Regazzoni's single-seater 1966 Tecno Formula 3 racing car (estimated at £35,000 to £45,000) and a 1965 Lotus Type 26 Elan S2 (estimated at £60,000 to £70,000).

The 1991 Rover Mini on offer presents a rare opportunity to own a car with a unique and outstanding pedigree, having being owned by one of the original 1960's style icons and film actress, Britt Ekland. Ekland owned the Mini for 5 years and helped to make the Mini the incredible and appreciating classic car that it is today. She only sold it when she auctioned off everything she owned after her divorce from Slim Jim Phantom, the drummer from the Stray Cats in 1996. This Rover Mini still has the original V5 and service record book.

The wonderful 1937 Jaguar SS 100 2 ½ litres is in excellent restored condition and would be suitable to grace the most precious Jaguar collections in the world or any concours event it might be entered into. In its current ownership the car has been regularly displayed at concours events throughout the UK, where it has performed very well, receiving trophies at most events it attended.

Clay Regazzoni's 1966 Tecno works car is one of the most beautiful Formula 3 cars Coys has offered. It is offered with a wonderful history file containing a vast amount of period racing images and with the correct FEV fire system and safety belts in date, making it a very cheap entry into the historic racing scene.

The 1965 Lotus Type 26 Elan S2 is also a very interesting and a cost-effective entry for some of the best events in the classic car world. It was the winning car in one of the races of the 1966 Bahamas Speed Week. In August 2013, it was granted a FIA Appendix “K” Historic Technical Passport (HTP). Importantly, the car retains its original chassis, engine, body and gearbox and even comes complete with two sets of the original JAP Magnesium wheels from 1966, plus the original grey hood.

The sale will also feature a 1976 Ferrari 308GTB Vetroresina (estimated at £135,000 to £150,000), a 1958 Aston DB2/4 Mark III (estimated at £130,000 to £160,000), a 1955 Bentley Series 1 Sports Saloon by Hooper (estimated at £26,000 to £30,000) and a 1929 Morgan Aero “Three Wheeler” (estimated at £18,000 to £25,000).

Other important lots include a 1968 Alfa Romeo GT (estimated at £20,000 to £25,000), a 1962 Jaguar MKII (estimated at £18,000 to £25,000) and a 1976 Ferrari 365 Barchetta Daddario (estimated at £250,000 to £300,000).

UNIQUE ‘CONNOLLY’ F40 COMPLETES LINE-UP OF FABULOUS FERRARIS AT H&H’S 14 OCTOBER DUXFORD SALE

A 1992 Ferrari F40, the Maranello company’s 200mph supercar and the last design personally approved by Enzo Ferrari, is the latest top-drawer entry in H&H Classic’s forthcoming Duxford sale, the catalogue for which is now online.

It will join the headlining Richard Colton Collection 1960 250 GT SWB and 1967 275 GTB/4, and 13 other highly collectable Ferraris at the bumper sale to be held on 14 October.

What marks this F40 out as truly special is that it’s believed to be the only one that the factory authorised to have its seats trimmed in Connolly leather.  Ordered new by Francis John Connolly of the eponymous family firm, the car was used as a promotional tool to showcase the famous British company’s products so familiar over the decades in Bentleys, Aston Martins and, of course, Ferraris.

Instead of the familiar red Nomex, Connolly retrimmed this F40 in the UK in tan aniline leather, Cuoio in Italian.

As a long-standing supplier to Ferrari, Connolly was sanctioned to carry out the modification, and in 2007 the car was granted Ferrari Classiche certification. It also has a leather-covered fuse-box cover, on which is an embossed stamp of the Connolly crest. The Connollys used the car – together with a Jaguar XJ220 – on many business trips across Europe, come rain or shine – serious driving of which the late Richard Colton would have wholeheartedly approved.

Today, the desirable late-model, adjustable-suspension car with a fully stamped service book and just 18,800 miles on the odometer is in top-notch condition, and will be offered by H&H alongside its illustrious forebears at an estimate of £750,000 to £800,000.

Other Ferraris in the sale include a red 1983 Ferrari 308 GTS QV for £65,000 - 75,000 and a stunning silver – with red leather – 1996 Ferrari 512 TR at £130,000 - 150,000.  And of course the sale also includes another Colton car, one very much in vogue with collectors today and highly prized due to its unusual colour: the Verde Zeltweg (metallic green) 1998 Ferrari 550 Maranello. Like the other ex-Richard Colton entries, the latter will be offered ‘Without Reserve’.

The sale will take place on 14 October at the Imperial War Museum, Duxford, Cambridgeshire, CB22 4QR. The motor car sale will start at 12:00 prompt.

There are now just under 100 days to go until the start of Europe’s premier pre-season motorsport show – Autosport International.

ORIGINAL ISOTTA FRASCHINI JOINS THE BONHAMS LONDON TO BRIGHTON VETERAN CAR RUN

Italian motoring pioneer, once given by Mussolini to America, makes its first ever appearance in the UK

A unique veteran car that Italian dictator Benito Mussolini once donated to the Henry Ford Museum will be making a guest appearance as a special invited entry on the Bonhams London to Brighton Veteran Car Run on Sunday, 1 November.

Historically significant, the 1901 Isotta Fraschini is chassis number one, the very first car to wear the famous ‘IF’ badge.

At that time the Milan-based company, which had been started by Cesare Isotta and brothers Vincenzo, Antonio and Oreste Fraschini, assembled and sold Renault cars in Italy.

Although now best known for its powerful racing cars and the luxury limousines built until the end of the Second World War, Fraschini’s first car was a more modest machine.

A small two-seater voiturette, chassis number one was powered by a single cylinder De Dion Bouton engine, as used in the contemporary Renault Type D so familiar to the company. But curiously, the car was never given any bodywork.

It was in this state – a rolling chassis – in 1931 when it was donated to Henry Ford’s famous museum in Dearborn, Michigan.

The company explained the donation of this ‘dear and precious document of (our) mechanics’ by saying it ‘could not find a more suitable and worthy seat than the one of the Ford Museum in Detroit, which has been created by the prodigious faith of a man who has dedicated his whole life to the mechanical automobile industry.’

In fact, it turned out that it had not been quite so freely given by Isotta Fraschini – the donation had been ordered by Mussolini who was trying to entice Ford to start producing cars in Italy. An idea that Fiat quickly stopped.

And the museum appears to have been a little bemused by the donation. Although the chassis was put on display for a while, it spent most of its time in America stored in the museum’s vaults before being sold in the 1980s.

In 2014, however, it was bought by an Italian collector who made sure the chassis came home after 83 years away. Aside from getting the engine to run after decades of silence, the car has not been restored in any way. It remains a rolling chassis and wears ‘the coat of time’ according to its owner.

So that it can be driven on the Run, however, it has been fitted with a pair of wicker seats mounted on a removable frame allowing it to be quickly returned to its original state.

Ben Cussons, Chairman of the Veteran Car Run Steering Group, said: ‘This is a truly remarkable machine. The very first Isotta Fraschini ever built, it is exactly as it left the factory 114 years ago. It has never before been seen in the UK, so its appearance on this year’s Run is something very special indeed.’

CLASSIC & SPORTS CAR – THE LONDON SHOW REVEALS FULL DETAILS OF ASTON MARTIN CELEBRATION

London, October 9th 2015     

One of Britain’s best-loved luxury car manufacturers, Aston Martin, will be celebrated in grand style at the inaugural Classic & Sports Car – The London Show, with a stunning collection of some of the luxury brand’s most iconic models, from the oldest-surviving to the very latest.

Seven of Aston Martin’s handbuilt machines will appear at the Alexandra Palace event from 30th October to 1st November in a display sponsored by EFG International.

A3

Taking the Aston Martin story back to the very beginning, an ultra-rare A3 will headline the display. The 1921 car, the oldest Aston Martin in existence, was the fourth and only survivor of marque founders Robert Bamford’s and Lionel Martin’s original prototypes. The car is now looked after by the Aston Martin Heritage Trust.

DB MkIII

Fewer than 500 DB MkIIIs were built from 1957 to 1959 and hardly any survive today, so it is a real thrill for Classic & Sports Car – The London Show organisers to have one in the display.

DB5

Almost certainly the most famous Aston Martin of all thanks to its starring role in 1964 Bond flick ‘Goldfinger’, the DB5 is seen by many as the ultimate Aston Martin. Powered by a four-litre, six-cylinder, all-aluminium engine, and with timeless styling, the DB5 is rightly heralded as a motoring icon. Visitors to Classic & Sports Car – The London Show can see a wonderful Silver Birch-painted car, just like in the movie.

V8

The first of Aston Martin’s V8-engined machines was the result of massive customer demand for bigger engines. The car destined to get Aston’s very first V8 was the DBS, which was launched with a straight-six Vantage engine in 1967. Two years after the DBS’ launch, in 1969, the DBS V8 was finally added to the line-up, and as the straight-six engine was discontinued in 1973, Aston dropped the DBS badged and the car simply became known as the ‘V8’.

DB7

A car of which Aston Martin is justifiably proud, the DB7 was the company’s most prolific production model in history. More than 7,000 were built between 1994 and 2004.

Vanquish

The six-litre V12 Vanquish first appeared in 2001 and was the company’s flagship grand tourer. Made famous in the 2002 James Bond film ‘Die Another Day’, the car was later upgraded with an ‘S’ specification in 2004, featuring a more powerful engine and revised aerodynamics. 

DB9 GT

Harking back to the GT-badged Aston Martins of the 1950s and ’60s, the DB9 GT is the last of the ultra-successful DB9 range, the replacement for the DB7. It represents the ultimate DB9, which Aston Martin has produced to such critical acclaim for 13 years.
